Until recently, fathers largely have been overlooked in family research by social scientists. Particularly fathers whose parents and grandparents were not born in Austria have not been recognised in previous research. Changes in social and cultural structures in Austrian and other European societies have called for a more comprehensive understanding of this subject. Popular images of fathers as young middle class men without migration backgrounds no longer reflect the reality. Often discussions around fatherhood and migration marked by stereotypes, particularly with respect to religion. However, a new wave of studies are helping to erode these stereotypes and false assumptions.

Together with the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, and Consumer Protection, WwB created a short video focusing on fathers with migrant backgrounds to capture their viewpoints of and hopes for their children.
