Women take charge: Female Leadership in India and Iraq

Women must be actively empowered and educated to take equal part in politics and civil society if an equitable, secure future is to be established. In order to provide a platform for the voices of young female leaders in India and Iraq, Women without Borders (WwB), in partnership with the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, organised a conference at the Austrian Embassy in New Delhi on 4 March 2005, featuring Manal Omar and Archana Kapoor, WwB representatives from Iraq and India, respectively. Omar gave insight into her work on the ground and her collaboration with WwB in an ongoing research project amongst Iraqi youth, while Kapoor focused on her vision to empower women in India through grassroots-level activism.

Speakers:

Manal Omar, Director of Women for Women International Iraq and WwB Project Coordinator.

Archana Kapoor, Publisher and Chief Editor of Hardnews, a monthly political magazine, and a WwB partner in New Delhi.
