Despite everyday experiences of violence across Afghanistan, women are at the forefront, demonstrating courage and endurance often at the risk of their own lives.
The setback of women’s rights and freedoms are destabilising factors not only for Afghanistan but for the world. The international community has the power and the responsibility to unlock mechanisms that challenge the rule of strongmen – the Taliban – who are currently terrorising every layer of society.

On 25 April 2023 at the Afghanistan Dialogue Conference in Vienna, WwB’s Founder and Chair Edit Schlaffer moderated a panel discussion with four trailblazers – Tahmina Salik, Seema Ghani, Zarqa Yaftali, and Ziagul Saljoki – who are fighting and advocating for women’s rights in Afghanistan. The event, supported by oiip, and organised by Wolfgang Petritsch, Christian Reder, and Nur Safa, hosted a number of prominent opposition leaders, activists, and politicians to discuss ways forward to secure a viable future for Afghanistan.
